Shanghai Halloween News

Chinese residents have lined up in Shanghai every night during the week for a chance to be scared to death.
“Shanghai Nightmare” is one of Shanghai’s first haunted houses. A crumbling, century-old warehouse was converted into a haunted house for Halloween.
Organizers created more than 13 different chambers filled with fright. Visitors have flocked to the haunted house for the special lights, sound effects, along with plenty of ghosts and goblins.
The success of the haunted house has been a surprise since Halloween is usually not a popular holiday in China. The organizers intended to only stay open until Halloween Day, but now they said they are considering staying open for longer due to strong demand, and perhaps set up another, bigger attraction next year.
“At least for the time being, the response from the public has been overwhelming,” Xu Jiali said, who is Chinese-American and grew up in the States. “At first, we did not do very well in publicizing ourselves, so much fewer people came. But the people who came gave us good reviews and this led to all their friends knowing about this fun project.”
